2010-04-20Short Report of a Brief Council Meeting held on Tuesday, April 20, 2010
1. Opening (7:30): The chairman, Paul Oosterhof opened the meeting with prayer, after which we sang “Have Thine Own Way, Lord”
He informed council of the passing away of Bea VanBeilen during the afternoon and that Rev. Witten will conduct the funeral service.
Absent were: Pastor John and Deacon Tim VanGilst.
2. Council discussed the matter of an ‘Elder for Seniors’. Council decided that our church will have an Elder for Seniors from now on.
3. Council then decided that John Knier will stay on for a 4th year as elder and serve as ‘Elder for Seniors’.
4. Harold Douma reported for an Ad Hoc committee that has been studying the
relationship between our church and the local Christian School and its support for
the school. He explained a proposal from the committee that aims to have the
congregation support families financially. Council agreed that based on council’s
previous decision to support TCS, the Ad Hoc com. will present that proposal to
the congregation at its meeting on Thursday, April 29th, and look for congregati
-onal input before council makes a decision on this matter.
5. The clerk will prepare the letter and forms for nominations for Elders & Deacons.
6. Closing (8:40): the chairman closed this special meeting of council. After this
meeting the Elders and Deacons met separately.
