2009-02-10Brief Report of Council Meeting, held on Feb.10, 2009
1. Opening at 7:30 p.m.:Grant Cousins led in Opening Devotions, reading a meditation dealing with Leadership & Submission. We sang “He Leadeth Me…” and he led in prayer;
2. Absent were: L. Dietrich, H.Douma, J. Geertsema, R. Johnston;
3. Minutes of the Jan.13, 2009 meeting were approved;
4. Council has struck a com. to look into our relationship to and support of TCS;
5. Council accepted Brent DeVries as a Professing Member from Barrhaven Fellowship CRC;
6. Council accepted Jason & Jennifer Wagensveld as Professing Members and their 2 baptized children from Calvary CRC of Ottawa;
7. The clerk reported on the correspondence received over the month of Jan.
8. Our pastor will attend the banquet of the Wbg. BP Scouts, and that group will worship with us on Sunday, Feb. 22nd;
9. We will obtain further info. Re: 2009-SERVE Project in Ottawa in July.
10. The F.A.C. reported that Bill DeJong, P. VanVeen Sr., and D.Noort have become members of that com.;
11. The F.A.C. presented a recommendation re: deficit of $ 5100.00 for 2008 and what to do with it. [see elsewhere in this bulletin what council decided]
12. Harold DeJong reported that the Cadets went skating and the Young People went skiing;
13. The Mission Trip plans are in full swing but it’s not known yet where they will work;
14. The pastor presented his report showing all his activities in Jan., 2009;
15. The pastor shared with council some thoughts about the many, busy areas of his ministry in our congregation, and how he is trying to maintain emotionally, physically, and spiritually healthy while doing his work which is over 6 days each week;
16. The clerk reported that copies of all the minutes of council up to Dec., 2008 are now stored in the Archives in Grand Rapids;
17. The clerk reported that Abe Douma has completed the tax receipts;
18. He has arranged pulpit supply for March 15 & 22 when the pastor is away on the Mission Trip;
19. The pastor and Elder Cousins are our delegates to the Classis Meeting to be held D.V. in Calvin CRC in Ottawa on March 6&7,2009;
20. Council completed the Classical Cred. Form;
21. The clerk will begin the paperwork for nominations by the congregation
for Elders and Deacons;
22. On March 8 we will join other area churches in an Ecumenical Service in St. James Anglican Church in Morrisburg. Pastor James Cantelon will give the sermon and other pastors will be involved in other parts; our 2nd service on that Sunday will not be held in our church;
23. Council will begin work on a Common-Law Policy for our congregation;
24. Closing at 9:55 p.m.: we sang “Lord Jesus, I Long to be Perfectly Whole” and Elder Cousins closed the meeting with prayer
