2009-05-05Brief Report of Council Meeting, held on May 5, 2009.
1. Opening (7:30 p.m.): Chairman Jack VanGilst led in devotions and prayer and we sang “Amazing Grace”; Absent: Will Brunsveld, Harold DeJong, Harold Douma, Josh Geertsema, Ype Vanderveen;
2. Council approved the Agenda after adding a few items;
3. The MINUTES of council meetings of April 7 & 21, 2009, were approved as presented;
4. Council approved the MINUTES of the Congregational Meeting of April 23;
5. Elder Cousins and Pastor John reported on the Classis Meeting held in March;
6. The deacons will look into supporting the “Special Needs” project which is slated for this summer in Ottawa;
7. Elder Cousins gave an update on the Summer Student Matt Eenigenburg. An Ad Hoc Com. Is working on a job-description for the student who will be commissioned, D.V. on June 14th;
8. Council dealt with a few items of correspondence, while most of the other items of correspondence had already gone to committees and/or persons;
9. Council completed the slate of nominations for 3 elders and 1 deacon, and set May 24th as the date for voting by the congregation;
10. Council approved a ‘mandate’ for the new committee that will write up a job description for a Youth Worker/Pastor, and council also approved several names of persons who will constitute that new committee;
11. Elder Cousins reported for the Worship Committee, briefly explaining a few matters;
12. Pastor John presented his April Report and he drew council’s attention to a number of items, e.g. Love South Dundas, his Sabbatical and his tour to S. America.
13. Council decided to celebrate the Lord’s Supper on Pastor John’s last Sunday in our midst, namely on D.V. Sun. June 7th, and possibly ordain the new office bearers as well in that same service.
14. Closing (9:15 p.m.): we sang “O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing” and the chairman led in a closing prayer.
