2009-04-07Brief Report of the Council Meeting, held on April 7, 2009
Opening: (7:30 p.m.) Mark Geertsema led in devotions and we sang a number of hymns reflecting the season of Lent;
Council approved the agenda for this meeting as well as the minutes of the March 24, 2009 meeting;
Council had 2 big items to deal with at this meeting:
A. Youth Ministry Strategy Report
Garry DeJong reported on behalf of a special committee which had worked with all the info gathered at the Youth Ministry Strategy Day, held in Jan., 2009. Several questions were asked and answered before council made the following decision: Council will move towards hiring a staff person to work with the youth and young adults of our congregation and community.
Much work needs to be done before such a person would begin working here and council will now begin to work on a mandate and job description.
The congregation will be informed in more detail at the congregational meeting scheduled for April 23, 2009.
Please Note: Council wants to thank the committee members for their
excellent work and the many hours they spent producing
this fine report. Well done!
B. Nominations for 3 Elders and 1 deacon
Council had received about a dozen nomination sheets from the congregation and these names were included when council decided on nominations for 3 elders and 1 deacon. The names will probably by published next Sunday after all nominees have been contacted.
Summer Student: Elder Grant Cousins reported that Seminary Student Matthew Eenigenburg will be here from June till August. His wife Carla and their 4 young children hope to be here, too. The family will live in our pastor’s house while he is away on a tour in S. America;
Council set the Agenda for the Congregational Meeting of April 23, 2009;
Due to the ‘heavy’ items, council was not able to deal with several regular items, and postponed those till the next meeting;
Closing (10:15 p.m.): Mark Geertsema closed the meeting with prayer.
