2009-10-06Brief Report of the Council Meeting held on Oct. 6, 2009
1. Opening: Elder L. Dietrich leads the devotions;
2. 4 members are absent for this meeting;
3. Minutes of the Sept. 8 meeting are approved;
4. Collins Barrow of Winchester will review the Fin. Books of our church;
5. Council approves that our pastor does not have to preach more than 2 sermons per
week. In a week in which there is a wedding, a funeral or a special service, he is
allowed to make an exchange or request pulpit supply;
6. Membership: Daniel Reitsma and his wife Amber now live in Steinbach, Man. And
attend the Chortitzer Mennonite Conference (Church) there. Council approves that he
terminates his membership by profession in our church. May they be a blessing there
and be blessed by the Lord;
7. Corrspondence: most of the mail went to the committees and council looks briefly at
some mail items from Redeemer Univ. College, Hyde Park Residences in Richmond,
a Home Missions request and Christmas Parcels for seamen;
8. Council approves that the mileage rate will be 45 cents per km.;
9. Council decides that when a church-group activity takes place in the church and extra
janitorial services are required, $ 50.00 is to be paid to the custodian;
10.The Worship Com. recommends that the evening service of Oct. 11 be cancelled since
we have a special service on Thanksgiving Day. Council agrees;
11.There are plans in the making to hold a combined Reformation Service on Sun. Nov 1
in our church. Some area churches will be approached;
12. Council approves a list of names of persons who will be asked to fill some vacancies
on the Woship Com.;
13. the Pastor presents his monthly report for Sept/09, listing his activities, sermons,
visits, etc.
14. Council approves baptisms for 2 babies: Leah Geertsema and Kaley DeJong;
15. The Clerk is gathering info and updates for the YEARBOOK 2010 for the
denomination;
16. Council determines the number of professing members in our church for Min. Shares
purposes;
17. The 4 new council members sign the Form of Subscription;
18. Our pastor will be a delegate to Classis and the elder delegate needs to determined
yet;
19. Council completes the Classical Credential Form;
20. the Congregational Meeting is scheduled for D.V. Nov. 26th;
21. Closing (at 10:10 p.m.): Elder Dietrich leads in a closing prayer and we sing “I Need
Thee Every Hour”
