2009-12-01Brief Report of the Council Meeting, held on Dec. 1, 2009
1.Opening: Vice-Chair Jack Menkhorst welcomed the members and Elder Cousins led in the opening devotions. Absent: Chairman P. Oosterhof;
2.Minutes of the meeting of Nov. 3, 2009 were approved as presented;
3.Council approved a Common Law Living Policy for our church;
4.The deacons will treat the seniors with a special luncheon on Tues., Dec. 15th when they meet with the Ladies Society for a Christmas Program;
5.The pastor presented his monthly list of activities for Nov., and also reported on the passing on to glory of Mrs. Doesburg, and the details for the wake & funeral;
6.The Worship Com. reported several items, 2 of which are: there will be no eve. Worship services for Dec. 27th and Jan. 3rd, due to the extra services during the weeks prior to those two dates;
7.The clerk reported on a number of items, one of which is the new church directory;
8.Council is trying to form an Ad Hoc com. that will update our constitution & bylaws. It approved a number of names for that committee;
9.Council also approved a new Budget Envelopes Policy that outlines who should have envelopes and at what point or time that should start for new givers;
10.Classis Minutes will be e-mailed to the members of council, or put in a special readings slot in the council-room, if they do not have internet;
11.Minutes of the Congregational Meeting of Nov. 26th were approved by council and council took careful note of the comments made by the members during that meeting;
12.Correspondence was dealt with and some of it was referred to a future meeting or to the Elders Meeting;
13.Council approved the transfer of membership of Benjamin VanGilst to Kemptville CRC;
14. The F.A.C. reported on its meeting and on some matters concerning Pat’s House and its progress;
15. Closing (10:10 p.m.); Elder Cousins led in a closing prayer and we sang “ O Come, O Come, Immanuel”.
